Outgoing E-mail and SPF setup - VIPRE Email Security

Customers of VIPRE Email Security may have their outgoing e-mails scanned for viruses, same as for their incoming emails.

Outbound scanning of email ensures mail can be logged in your portal for tracking, and also any Advanced Polices can be applied, e.g. email disclaimers.

Outbound Relay Setup:

• Log on to the portal - go to Service Settings > Outbound Relay and add your public IP.

Next step is to add the smart hosts to a send-connector on your mail server.

Update your send connector on your mail server to point to VIPRE. These hostnames are region dependent, so please make sure you're using the correct format for your country.

  • usa.outbound1.mailanyone.net

SPF Recommendations:

If you send outgoing e-mails through VIPRE, we recommend that you set up an SPF record in your DNS. This SPF record should include the IP's you send outgoing e-mail from, the VIPRE IP's, and any other sources / applications that send email on behalf of your domain.

The record has to be setup as a TXT record within DNS.

Your SPF record may look something like this (and also include any other services that send email on behalf of your domain):

v=spf1 include:spf.mailanyone.net -all

Including spf.mailanyone.net in your SPF records will associate all VIPRE IP ranges with your domain in DNS, stating that VIPRE IPs are allowed to send email on behalf of your domain. You would also need to include any other entities allowed to send email on behalf of your domain.

There are also SPF creation tools available through a Google search that can assist with SPF creation, however, we do not recommend any specific tool.

Abuse:

Abuse of VIPRE Email Security's SMTP relay may result in us shutting down access from the IP(s) in question. Abuse can be any of the following:
• Mass-distribution of mails such as newsmails.
• Distribution of spam-mails due to a compromised computer / server.
• Relaying of mails on behalf of non-agreed domains.
