Sending Encrypted Email with Outlook 2013 for Windows
This article demonstrates how Outlook 2013 can be quickly configured to send encrypted emails using Sendinc.
Prerequisites
- A Sendinc Email Alias - Don't have one? Enable Your Email Alias
- A PC with Outlook 2013 for Windows
Step 1:
Open Outlook 2013 on your Windows computer.
Step 2:
Click "File" in the top left corner.
Step 3:
Click on "+ Add Account".
Step 4:
Select the "Manual setup or additional server types" option and click "Next".
Step 5:
Select the "POP or IMAP" option and click "Next".
Step 6:
Fill out the form:
- Fill in
Your Name
- Set
Email Address
to your Sendinc Email Alias - Set
Account Type
to "IMAP" - Set
Incoming mail server
to "imap.sendinc.net" - Set
Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
to "smtp.sendinc.net" - Set
User Name
to your Sendinc Email Alias - Set
Password
to your Sendinc Password - Enable the
Remember password
option - Enable the
Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
option
Step 7:
Click on "More Settings...".
Step 8:
Select the "Outgoing Server" tab.
Step 9:
Fill out the form:
- Enable the
My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
option - Select the
Use same settings as my incoming mail server
option
Step 10:
Select the "Advanced" tab.
Step 11:
Fill out the form:
- Set
Incoming server (IMAP)
to "993" with theencrypted connection
set to "SSL" - Set
Outgoing server (SMTP)
to "465" with theencrypted connection
set to "SSL" - Chose whether or not your want to
save copies of sent items
(this will save messages unencrypted on your local machine)
Note
Outlook may set your Incoming/Outgoing server
settings when you choose "SSL" as the encrypted connection
. Be sure to set the Incoming/Outgoing server
settings back to their proper values if this happens.
Step 12:
Verify that Step 9 and Step 11 are correct and click "OK".
Step 13:
Click "Next".
Step 14:
Outlook will now run a couple of tests to verify your settings. If the tests are "Completed" you can click "Close". If one or both of the tests failed, please go back to the beginning of the guide and verify that you set everything up exactly as instructed. Still not working? Submit a Support Ticket.
Note
You will receive an email from your Sendinc Email Alias with the subject "[Secure Message] Microsoft Outlook Test Message". You can safely delete and disregard this message, it just means your setup worked.
Step 15:
Click "Finish".
Step 16:
When composing a new message, set the Sendinc Email Alias account you just created as the From
address before sending.
All Done!
Send a test email to yourself to make sure everything works!
