Sending Encrypted Email with Outlook 2010 for Windows


This article demonstrates how Outlook 2010 can be quickly configured to send encrypted emails using Sendinc.

Prerequisites


Step 1:

Open Outlook 2010 on your Windows computer.

Step 2:

Click "Tools" in the top menu bar.

Step 3:

Select "Account Settings".

Step 4:

On the "Email" tab, click on "New...".

Step 5:

Select the "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP" option and click "Next".

Step 6:

Select the "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" option and click "Next".

Step 7:

Select the "Internet E-mail" option and click "Next".

Step 8:

Fill out the form:

  • Fill in Your Name
  • Set Email Address to your Sendinc Email Alias
  • Set Account Type to "IMAP"
  • Set Incoming mail server to "imap.sendinc.net"
  • Set Outgoing mail server (SMTP) to "smtp.sendinc.net"
  • Set User Name to your Sendinc Email Alias
  • Set Password to your Sendinc Password
  • Enable the Remember password option
  • Enable the Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) option

Step 9:

Click on "More Settings...".

Step 10:

Select the "Outgoing Server" tab.

Step 11:

Fill out the form:

  • Enable the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication option
  • Select the Use same settings as my incoming mail server option

Step 12:

Select the "Advanced" tab.

Step 13:

Fill out the form:

  • Set Incoming server (IMAP) to "993" with the encrypted connection set to "SSL"
  • Set Outgoing server (SMTP) to "465" with the encrypted connection set to "SSL"

Note

Outlook may set your Incoming/Outgoing server settings when you choose "SSL" as the encrypted connection. Be sure to set the Incoming/Outgoing server settings back to their proper values if this happens.

Step 14:

Verify that Step 11 and Step 13 are correct and click "OK".

Step 15:

Click "Next".

Step 16:

Click "Finish".

Step 17:

When composing a new message, set the Sendinc Email Alias account you just created as the From address before sending.

All Done!

Send a test email to yourself to make sure everything works!
