How to create a filter for specific extensions

This KB article will walk you through how to create a filter rule for specific extensions and/or filenames and block them from end users.

To get started the filters menu is located under Company Settings > Filters

Click "Add the first filter" or if you have filters already click "Add New Filter" to get started

Add New Filter

  1. Type in "Name" for the filter.
  2. Select direction whether outbound or inbound.  Default is inbound
  3. Click on "Continue" button.

Filter Builder Section

Step 1 "Scope" will be whether the rule is specific to a user or the whole Company.  There is a drop down menu here to select a specific user or group

Step 2 Select "If" conditions by clicking on first Choose dropdown button

Select Attachment Name and then click on second "Choose" dropdown to select option either "IS " or "IS NOT"

Input the extension name, i.e. *.zip

Step 3 Click on "Manage" link to choose attachment type

Step 4 Select "Do"

 Select Quarantine

Step 5 Select Priority.  Low or Normal.  Normal being default

Step 6: Click Save filter.  This will save the filter and automatically scroll you to the top of the page stating "Filter Saved."

 

NOTE: To get back to complete filter list you need to click Filters tab in the main menu bar
