To reduce spoofed emails coming into your domain you can enable VIPRE Email Security to perform actions based on SPF checks.
We as a receiver will check that the email was sent from the sending organisation. This is done by looking at the sending domains' SPF record and if the sending IP is listed it will pass the filter. We will not quarantine mails if the sender does not have a valid SPF record.
If the SPF check fails, then we look at the end of the record which determines what should happen. It can either be:
- hard fail (-all)
- soft fail (~all)
- Login to your VIPRE Email Security portal.
- Go to Service settings > Filtering.
- Under Additional Quarantine settings, tick in Quarantine at SPF failure.
- Drag the slider to select if you want to quarantine hard fail only or both hard and soft fail.
- Click Save
This function is recommended that you have enabled, especially if you are experiencing problems with spoofed emails, but also in general. You don't have to have a SPF record set up on your own domain to use this function, since it checks the senders' SPF record.
