How do I silently install ZixSelect for Outlook 2010, 2013 or 2016?

The below information will assist you with silently deploying ZixSelect for Outlook 2010 through 2016 to multiple PCs. This represents one way ZixSelect can be deployed. The intent of this article is to provide you with enough detail to make your deployment successful, regardless of the silent deployment (push) solution you use.

ZixSelect for Outlook uses InstallShield as its installer. InstallShield uses a recorded "response" file to automate silent installations.

NOTE: The prerequisites for ZixSelect for Outlook 2010 through 2013 must be installed first. Additionally, you will need to use the same installer package to silently uninstall this version.  Please keep this installer in a safe place, should it ever be removed from the ZixSupport web site.

To create the "response" file:
  1) Download ZixSelect for Outlook.

  2) Close Outlook

  3) Open a command prompt (CMD window) and change directory to the folder containing the ZixSelect EXE file

  4) Create the response file using the following command:

       ZSO_VERSION.exe -r

  The install will begin as normal. During the installation process, select the desire options.

  You can repeat this process as many time as necessary until you are satisfied.

  Once you the installation is complete, locate the "C:\Windows\setup.iss" and move it to a safe location.

NOTE: Response files created using ZixSelect for Outlook 2010, are only compatible with Outlook 2010 installations. Response files created with Outlook 2013 are compatible with Outlook 2016, 2013 and 2010 installations.

Deploy ZixSelect:
After creating the setup.iss response file, you can perform the silent install on multiple workstations.

NOTE: The steps below refer to a "C:\zixselect\" location for the self-extracting EXE file and response (setup.iss) file. While, the EXE file and response file must be in the same directory, the directory name is not important.

  1) Close Outlook

  2) Open a command prompt (CMD window) and change directory to the folder containing the ZixSelect EXE file

  3) Silently install ZixSelect with the below command:

       C:\zixselect\ZSO_VERSION.exe -s -f1"C:\zixselect\setup.iss"
