Verifying By Adding A DNS (TXT) Record To The Domain's Configuration
- For your company:
- click .
- For a customer:
- on the Customers tab, click the name of the customer whose domains you want to test (the customer’s company record opens).
- Navigate to Company Settings > Domains.
- Click the desired domain.
- From the Verification Method dropdown, choose Verify by TXT record. A value (for example, ppe-7c123438b96cd00aa17e) is shown.
- Copy the value to the clipboard.
- Click Verify Later.
- Open a new tab or browser window.
- Login to your DNS provider's website.
- Go to your provider's domain management screen: this may be called DNS Settings, Control Panel, Advanced Settings, etc.
- Add a new entry to your DNS as follows:
Type TXT Host @ Value/Answer/Definition [Paste the value from the clipboard] TTL 3600 seconds / 1 hour - Save the change.
- Return to Proofpoint Essentials.
- Edit the domain you wish to verify and click Verify Now.
- Confirm that the verification status value associated with the domain is verified (as shown in the Verification Status column for the domain on the Domains tab of Company Settings).
- Enable the domain using the control.
Verifying By Adding A Custom META Tag To The Homepage Of Your Domain
- for your company:
- click .
- for a customer:
- on the Customers tab, click the name of the customer whose domains you want to test (the customer’s company record opens).
- Navigate to Company Settings > Domains.
- Click the desired domain.
- From the Verification Method list, select Verify by META tag record. A value (for example, <meta name="ppe-verify" content="ppe-f01321e1e822fcd1e7a8">) is shown.
- Copy the value to the clipboard.
- Click Verify Later.
- Open a new tab or browser window
- Open your website homepage HTML file using any text or HTML editor or, if your web host uses a web-based page editor (WordPress, Squarespace, etc.), open your homepage in their editor.
- Paste the content from your clipboard into the <head> section that appears before the first <body> section. (If you are unsure how to do this, contact your web host's technical support team.)
- Open your website homepage in a browser and view the source to confirm the addition.
- Return to Proofpoint Essentials.
- Edit the domain you wish to verify and click Verify Now.
- Confirm that the verification status value associated with the domain is verified (as shown in the Verification Status column for the domain on the Domains tab of Company Settings).
- Enable the domain using the control.
