Searchable File Formats

ZixGateway searches the files attached or content within the attached files, to an email message if the attachment option is selected in the active policy.

ZixGateway cannot apply content-based encryption policies to non-searchable binary files. Therefore, any sensitive information contained within non-searchable binary files attached to an email message will not be scanned by ZixGateway. Examples of non-searchable binary files include, but are not limited to, images, some scanned files and password protected documents.

You can enhance the ability of ZixGateway to encrypt email messages that include non-searchable file attachments by setting up a ZixGateway configuration to encrypt all email messages containing an attachment of a certain file type.
