Configuring Email Security - VIPRE Archiving for Exchange

This is generic article that should help with journal rules on Exchange for specifically Office 365 see the related article.

When using Exchange with Email Security - Archiving there are 2 parts to the configuration setting up a separate send connector, and configuring the journaling. 

Creating a new Send Connector:

This is needed to make sure that archived mail doesn't go back through the filter and rick being stopped or double archived. 

  1. Log in to the Exchange Management Console (EMC)
  2. Select the Organization Configuration and then Hub Transport
  3. Select the Send Connectors Tab click  New Send Connector...

  4. Give the connector a name and chose Custom from the drop down
  5. In the Address Space enter archive.mailanyone.net 
    (make sure the cost is lower than any other smart hosts that might cover this address space)
  6. Click Next
  7. Pick the Option to Use domain name system (DNS) "MX" records to route mail automatically 
  8. Click OK and Next
  9. Set authentication to None and click Next
  10.  Do not make any changes to Source Server settings and click Next
  11. Click Next and then New

 

Setting up the Journaling:

Once the connector is configured we need to start sending internal mail to the archive (Email Security - Archiving will automatically create copies of external mail as it passes through our systems). 

  1. Log in to the Exchange Management Console (EMC)
  2. Select the Organization Configuration and then Hub Transport
  3. Select the Journal Rules tab and click New Journal Rule...New Journal Rule in ECP 2010 SP1
  4. Enter the details:
    1. Select [Apply to all messages] for the option *If the message is sent to or from...
    2. Select Internal messages only on the *Journal the following messages...
    3. In the *Send journal reports to enter your archive address you have got from Service Settings > Email Security - Archiving section of your portal. (this will be a long string followed by @archive.mailanyone.net)
    4. Give the rule a Name
    5. Click Save
  5. Make sure the rule is enabled by looking at the tick box
  6. This will now start archiving all internal mail
